alternate!Berlin's plans for Jan. 1919

This map is an alternate world within an alternate world, a view of the status quo that the German imperialists and militarists wanted (and even sort-of enacted IRL in both our and their timelines). It's what Kaiser Bill, Hindenburg, and Ludendorff would have imposed had they been in the OTL Entente's position at Versailles--a strong Central-Powers victory. Perhaps its most prominent characteristic is not that it makes Germany a US-level continental power (with exclusive, though flexible, economic exploitation and colonization of its neighbors), nor that it looks just like 1942, but how little its planners thought anything would change: it's basically a projection of the Edwardian–Wilhelmine world, operating on the assumption of a restored politics and economy.

Germany annexes Briey, Longwy, Luxembourg, Verviers, and Poland up to Łódź, Kalisz, and the Narew River. Belgium (bribed with Givet, Rocroi, and Dunkirk), Byelorussia, Charles I's Finland, and Ukraine would be German satellites, controlled by Berlin in the fields of economy, monetary policy, and foreign relations; Georgia would be a similar dependency. Adolf Friedrich's vassal Baltic Duchy, colonized Crimea, Mindaugas II's Lithuania, and Poland would be administratively-dependent, under German sovereignty and nobility, with some self-rule. All business would basically be in Germans' hands. IRL Galicia was even given the option of joining Poland 1916 (though this would've been without the German annexations of northwestern Congress Poland). Belarus and Ukraine might even end up in a republican Intermarium if the Germans and Austrians can keep a lid on ethnic troubles; the Don and Kuban Cossacks would be independent within the sphere of influence. The Bolshies and Belkies could do what they wanted on their side of the border, and probably get guns 'n' training. Mitteleuropa would be integrated and subjected into a controlled backyard for land, labor, and resources, with Berlin's "partners" in Constantinople and Vienna reliant on German support. Denmark and Holland would be in tight association--almost satellites. France gets saddled with 10 billion Reichsmarks' indemnity plus all Central debt and veterans' funds, and military and industrial control of the Nord and Lorraine, with all their coal: Soissons, Montbéliard, and Reims would see the muddy jackboots of gawping Fritzes in their cathedrals. France would be economically-dependent, shun Britain, and give Berlin free rein of all its colonies: it would be thoroughly dominated by German finance and commerce, and probably have to settle for a secondary role as sub-financier within Europe. Antwerp, Boulogne, Dunkirk, La Rochelle, Ostend, St.-Nazaire, and Zeebrugge would be leased for 99 years. Venice and Thessaloniki would be occupied by Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria, respectively.

Berlin had sent feelers to Afghanistan, India, and Ireland, encouraging independence there. The alternate!alternate!British Dominions would probably move to federate (unless there were two Gallipolis to sufficiently piss off the Canadians and ANZACs), falling into bitterness and pro-US "Anglo-Saxonism" against Berlin's efforts to woo his relatives into some sort of Zwanzigkaiserbund.

Germany controls the Belgian Congo, protects Morocco, and gains Papua and the Solomons--and Guam, Nauru, and Samoa (light gray) if it were greedy. Even without any formal colonial handover, the Mittelafrika plan would give Germany dominance in French Equatorial Africa, Dahomey, Madagascar, Kenya, copper-rich Northern Rhodesia, Nyasaland, and Uganda--and Portuguese Africa will have to play real nice! Sudan's Cape-to-Cairo railway would go through Aba, branching at Mungbere: the main line goes through Stanleyville to Kindu's crossroads. The western one from Kindu goes through Port-Francqui to Léopoldville, where it branches again, one to Boma and the other through Banningville and Coquilhatville and up that creepy-looking little Sangha-Dja Neukamerun appendix over to Duala. The southern Congolese branch goes Kamina-Élisabethville and the eastern one Costermansville-Usumbura-Dodoma-Dar es Salaam. There's a web of sea lanes between Petrograd, Riga, Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Port Said, Lome, Duala, Dar es Salaam, Basra, Batavia, Qingdao, (and any other ports that could be persuaded to be friendly) connecting to the African rail Verkehrsschema. Unrestricted access to the ocean would mean four nice big fleets: Baltic, North Sea, African, and Pacific. Economic disaster and a postwar reassessment of colonialism makes the alternate!Weimar Republic abandon this grand scheme to unify their empire (now under both mandate and receivership) by 1921.

Bulgaria just wants Kilkis in Greece, Pirot and Vranje in Serbia, and Vardar Macedonia (so it looks like 1942!Bulgaria). Austria-Hungary would annex Montenegro's Bar, Budva, and Kotor and the Carpathian passes in Romania, and control Vidi I's Albania, Montenegro, Romania under Wilhelm I, a restored Obrenović Serbia under George I, and a restored Sanjak of Novi Pazar: Bosnia might become a puppet state (maybe). The Ottoman Empire would get the Italian Dodecanese and Lemnos, and dominate Armenia, Azerbaijan, Senussi Libya, Dervish Puntland, and Egyptosudan under a restored Abbas II.
